Re: Readmission Criteria to School

hi Kawasaki Disease is NOT contagious !!! Therefore, the only concerns about the child returning to school will be concerning how he/she feels and the physician's clinical determination. The child's pediatric cardiologist should be the one to determine when the child is ready to return to school As ...

She needs to be evaluated by a Pediatric Cardiologist ASAP, not an ER doc :)

Re: Blood in Stool

Hi

I would not ask the pediatrician about this, it does sound random !
Please check with his pediatric cardiologist...he is the one to consult for anything related to KD and Kd
follow-up care :)

Re: Parental anxiety

hi I can understand your concern....I think most of us felt that way in the beginning :) However, you should keep in mind that: 1- there is NO known cause yet of Kawasaki Disease, so you can't really know what triggered his KD 2- the rate of recurrence is about 1.9%....which makes it possible, but v...

Re: Heart problems in adulthood?

hi

ANY potential cardiac symptoms in anyone with a history of KD = a visit to a Cardiologist and possible work-up to determine if anything new is going on !!

Re: I had KD 30 years ago

hi How scary for you and your daughter :( About 25% of children who did not receive IVIG may develop coronary artery complications, such as aneurysms Is she being followed now by a pediatric cardiologist ?? Important to learn if she will need long-term medication or have any activity restrictions an...

Re: KD for a second time ?

hi

There is no known link between Kawasaki Disease and immunizations.

There is a slight risk of developing KD again in all children who have had KD, but it is estimated to be only a 1% risk

Re: ohio walks??

hi Not likely to be a KD specific walk, but you might wish to participate in the American Heart Walk, there are multiple Ohio locations. http://www.heartwalk.org/site/c.flKUIeOUIgJ8H/b.8939141/k.BD45/Home.htm My son has had a team called "Kawasaki Kids" in the RI Heart Walk since 2003. We have t-shi...

Re: Burning in the hands and Feet

a complex skin issue is out of a primary care provider's area of expertise !
Have you seen a Dermatologist, preferably at a children's hospital ?
Unlikely to be KD related, so keep asking questions !

Re: Possible Kawasaki Relapse Without Fever!?

hi

Not likely...but, please call your son's pediatric cardiologist and let him decide :)
You're not bothering the doctory...far better to receive reassurance than to wish one had contacted
the cardiologist :)

Re: Immune System Issues?

hi Unless you develop cardiac complications during the original, acute illness (back when you were 16 months old), there should be no long term effects. You should make your primary card provider aware of your history of KD, and follow American Heart Assoc guidelines for eating a healthy diet, maint...

Re: Introduction and question concerning Orthomol

hi Frances, I think the fatigue is more obvious in a teenager or older child with KD ! Most kids are babies and toddlers when they have KD, they are still taking naps and don't have homework or school activities going on ! My son was in 2nd grade when he had KD and even then, I had to decide about s...

Re: Introduction and question concerning Orthomol

hi I am a mother, not a doctor ! But, my thoughts: 1- if he was treated with gammaglobulin (IVIG), his immune system will be stronger than usual for about 3 months, so no need to treat with supplements. 2- if you do decide to use a supplement (Orthomol), please check with your son's doctor first, in...
