Re: Long term

hi My son had KD at age 7 in 2002. He has been amazingly healthy since then, only one "sick" visit in the last 12 years. He played competitive sports all through high school and now in college he runs nine miles per day all year round for fitness. He also was a straight "A" student all through schoo...

Re: How soon did your child receive Echo?

Hi

Standard of care is always an echocardiogram at the time of diagnosis ! (Per American Heart Assoc. guidelines)

A quick version of the schedule is: "Today, two weeks, two months" (further echos may added depending on the child's clinical condition)

Re: possible kawasaki what next

hi

Benadryl will not make any difference if the child has KD !

If the parents aren't happy with the pediatrician's answers...getting checked out by a pediatric cardiologist would be the next step or going the ER of a CHILDREN's Hospital, where pediatric cardiology will be available.

hi

Spam post about cleaners was deleted.

Carpet cleaning theory regarding KD was discarded by KD researchers years ago !

Re: TO JOE: I'M ASKING YOU FIRST.....

hi If you wish to get involved in raising awareness of KD, participating in a local American Heart Association "Heart Walk" is a great way ! You can form a team, pick a name and help raise awareness of KD and money for the American Heart Association ! My son had KD in 2002 and has had a Heart Walk t...

Re: TO JOE: I'M ASKING YOU FIRST.....

hi Research takes money....and rare diseases struggle to get funding for research. Unfortunately, it may be as simple as that....parents care, the docs care, but at the research level, KD is a very small segment of the "pie". Jane Burns MD at UCSD, Jane Newburger MD at Boston Children's, Anne Rowley...

Re: Readmission Criteria to School

hi Kawasaki Disease is NOT contagious !!! Therefore, the only concerns about the child returning to school will be concerning how he/she feels and the physician's clinical determination. The child's pediatric cardiologist should be the one to determine when the child is ready to return to school As ...

She needs to be evaluated by a Pediatric Cardiologist ASAP, not an ER doc :)

Re: Blood in Stool

Hi

I would not ask the pediatrician about this, it does sound random !
Please check with his pediatric cardiologist...he is the one to consult for anything related to KD and Kd
follow-up care :)

Re: Parental anxiety

hi I can understand your concern....I think most of us felt that way in the beginning :) However, you should keep in mind that: 1- there is NO known cause yet of Kawasaki Disease, so you can't really know what triggered his KD 2- the rate of recurrence is about 1.9%....which makes it possible, but v...

Re: I had KD 30 years ago

Important to learn if she will need long-term medication or have any activity restrictions an...

Re: KD for a second time ?

hi

There is no known link between Kawasaki Disease and immunizations.

There is a slight risk of developing KD again in all children who have had KD, but it is estimated to be only a 1% risk

Re: ohio walks??

hi Not likely to be a KD specific walk, but you might wish to participate in the American Heart Walk, there are multiple Ohio locations. http://www.heartwalk.org/site/c.flKUIeOUIgJ8H/b.8939141/k.BD45/Home.htm My son has had a team called "Kawasaki Kids" in the RI Heart Walk since 2003. Re: Burning in the hands and Feet

a complex skin issue is out of a primary care provider's area of expertise !
Have you seen a Dermatologist, preferably at a children's hospital ?
Unlikely to be KD related, so keep asking questions !
