Re: Constantly Sick after Kawasaki??

hi

Three year olds get sick frequently, especially if they go to daycare or preschool or have other siblings at home !

There's no medical evidence that a history of having had KD affects the immune system later :)

Re: Vaccinations

hi

Anne Rowley, MD, Professor of Pediatrics-Infectious Disease at Northwestern's Fineberg School of Medicine and noted KD researcher has repeatedly stated that immunizations are *not* connected to a child developing Kawasaki Disease

Re: VARIOUS LONG TERM EFFECTS?

hi The medical literature really only reports cardiac complications from KD. Anything else in anecdotal from other parents. My son also had KD long ago, in 2002. He's now 20 years old and has only had one "sick" visit since 2002, rarely ever gets even a cold. He runs nine miles a day all year round ...

Please don't add any supplements to your son's diet without consulting his pediatric cardiologist first :)

Re: 7 year-old - Treated fast, but with wrong dose IVIG

hi Children who are not treated with IVIG at all have about a 25% chance of developing aneurysms. Children treated in the first 10 days of illness with IVIG have about a 5% chance of developing aneurysms. My son had KD in 2002 and was treated on Day 10. He made a full recovery and has been extremely...

Re: Routine Immunisations MMR post IVIG

hi I'm the parent of a child who had KD in 2002 and a KDF volunteer since 2003. Dr Anne Rowley, Attending physician, Infectious Diseases; Professor of Pediatrics, Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine has been asked this question in the past and her response was that there is no conn...

Re: Long term

hi My son had KD at age 7 in 2002. He has been amazingly healthy since then, only one "sick" visit in the last 12 years. He played competitive sports all through high school and now in college he runs nine miles per day all year round for fitness. He also was a straight "A" student all through schoo...

Re: How soon did your child receive Echo?

Hi

Standard of care is always an echocardiogram at the time of diagnosis ! (Per American Heart Assoc. guidelines)

A quick version of the schedule is: "Today, two weeks, two months" (further echos may added depending on the child's clinical condition)

Re: possible kawasaki what next

hi

Benadryl will not make any difference if the child has KD !

If the parents aren't happy with the pediatrician's answers...getting checked out by a pediatric cardiologist would be the next step or going the ER of a CHILDREN's Hospital, where pediatric cardiology will be available.

Spam post about cleaners was deleted.

Carpet cleaning theory regarding KD was discarded by KD researchers years ago !

hi If you wish to get involved in raising awareness of KD, participating in a local American Heart Association "Heart Walk" is a great way ! You can form a team, pick a name and help raise awareness of KD and money for the American Heart Association ! My son had KD in 2002 and has had a Heart Walk t...

Re: TO JOE: I'M ASKING YOU FIRST.....

hi Research takes money....and rare diseases struggle to get funding for research. Unfortunately, it may be as simple as that....parents care, the docs care, but at the research level, KD is a very small segment of the "pie". Jane Burns MD at UCSD, Jane Newburger MD at Boston Children's, Anne Rowley...

Re: Readmission Criteria to School

hi Kawasaki Disease is NOT contagious !!! Therefore, the only concerns about the child returning to school will be concerning how he/she feels and the physician's clinical determination. The child's pediatric cardiologist should be the one to determine when the child is ready to return to school As ...
