Arthritis/joint pain 2 years on??

Hi my daughter, now 3 1/2 was diagnosed when just 17 months old with KD and treated fortunately on the 5th day. She had terrible arthritis pain for 3 months after diagnosis in her wrists, knees and ankles to the point where she could not walk or feed herself for a couple of hours after waking and was very limited in her movements which was so unusual for her as she is a child who does not sit still. She had no cardiac issues and was discharged from all follow up last year. But over the past couple of months she complains that joints hurt all over her. For the last 3 weeks she has complained that her left wrist has been hurting and I have put it down to growing pains as there were not other obvious symptoms or trauma to cause it.

That was until this morning when she woke, her wrist and hand was very swollen and warm and was guarding it. We have been to the doctor and had an x-ray which didn't show anything significant and been to have bloods as the GP is suspecting possible arthritis. Needless to say I have jumped on google and came across this site. I am looking for anyone who has had a similar experience so I am armed with info when we see our paediatrician soon. When you google KD and juvenile arthritis nothing comes up except for the initial arthritis symptoms linked to the inflammation stage of the disease. Is it possible to have residual arthritis suddenly flare up literally 2 years to the day after diagnosis???

Thanks in advance for any advice

hi

No likely connection between a history of KD and arthritis type symptoms now. The joint pain sometimes associated with
KD is transient and does not cause joint damage.

Your daughter's physician will likely be testing her for JIA (juvenile idiopathic arthritis) as well as other diseases that
can cause joint pain and swelling.

Best of luck :)

Thanks Nancy, that info is much appreciated. Her leg/knee has started hurting this afternoon on waking from a nap and hand is still swollen. Unfortunately this weekend is a public holiday here so hopefully it doesn't take too long to get an appointment with our paediatrician

Hi,
I know you posted over 3 months ago now. Hoping you get this.
My daughter is 4 years old and post KD approx 1.5 years.
I have noticed she has had pins and needles often. Has complained about walking. Yesterday she woke up and said her legs were hurting. I have noticed there are a few parents who's child is in a similar situation post KD with joint pain. I am hoping to talk to out GP and then get a referral to a pedeatrician.
Any further news since your post in Sept?

Hi - My son had KD when he was 8 - he is now 13 and has an issue with his knee - he spent 10 days in hospital with severe pain in knee - he had many KD symptoms but doctors did not know enough about KD to even consider treating. We are in FL with limited healthcare experts. He did run in freshly sprayed pesticide the day before the outbreak of pain. It has been 4 months and his knee is the size of a melon - they have tested him for JIA but all test keep coming back negative....so yes i think there could be a connection...or he is having a relapse of KD. He has not been officially diagnosed with JIA. If anyone knows of a great KD specialist that we can consult - please advise - frustrated with FL doctors....no one knows what to do but keep pointing the other way....hope you find some answers too.
